Yael Bartana

Imagine you are asked by a travel agency to design a pamphlet promoting a tour of the Jewish Quarter in Krakow, Poland.

1.    How would the information you have seen at ACCA today give you some insight into the culture and history of this region? Write down what you understood of the content of the videos and what was said by the education officer.

Yarl Bartana's Story is about a fictitious movement, aiming to make Poland the largest community of Jewish people. The way Yarl Bartana goes about it is the same way Hitler went about his regime.

2.     Look at:
Galicia Jewish Museum, Oscar Schindler's Factory. Kazimierz (Jewish Quarter in
:  Krakow)
Podgorze (Jewish Ghetto). Jewish Festival (Krakow)

List websites you looked at

http://www.en.galiciajewishmuseum.org/
http://www.cracow-life.com/poland/krakow-ghetto
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Culture_Festival_in_Krak%C3%B3w
http://www.jewishkrakow.net/en/see/oscar-schindlers-factory/

3.     What other sources (list 6) can you provide for your research for your tour pamphlet.
http://www.krakow-info.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galicia_Jewish_Museum
http://www.cracow-life.com
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krak%C3%B3w_Ghetto
http://www.krakow-tours.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oskar_Schindler

4.      How does watching Yael Bartana videos in the context of the gallery differ from watching TV?

Yael Bartana videos are designed to inform and give you a thought to this could or even should happen, with the gallery you had a scene that you were there. if you were to watch this at home you would have to put up with add breaks and you could lose the sence of what is happening in this deep plot.

5.     Why do you think this work is considered to be art?

I think this is art because Yael Bartana has created a alternate universe within a form of a film, Yael hasnt just created a story, she a created an opinion expressed by film.

6.     Yael Bartana as a video artist uses the medium to look at and create a dialogue about a political theme. Can you locate an example of a piece of graphic design from the past of present that makes a strong political statement? Can you explain why the design is strong?

The Uncle sam wonts you poster was used to recruit soldiers during the war in 1812 in america, sam was designed to look patriotic and so he is wearing cloths that reflect the american flag.

7.    How do you respond to the artwork you've seen today?

The videos shown have given me a new perspective on the events that happened during ww2, that art if applied well can give incite into a topic that is touchy to talk about in a public audience
